Admit it guys, when you start off salsa dancing your biggest problem, apart from not knowing how to dance is the frequency that you find your partner letting out a shrill scream as once again you have caused her an injury by stepping on her toes.
Why does this happen? Well normally it is because your partner has been paying attention to the class and knows the correct direction to be moving in, whereas your attention span is waning and you have slipped over into another world. Or the opposite situation where you are concentrating so hard that you are so focused on your own moves you forget to pay
attention to your partner.
What ever the reason, dont worry. It will come with time. Listen to the music and move with it. Initially don’t try and spin your partner at break neck speeds, move a bit slower which gives you more time to pay attention. Finally, try and lead your partner and by doing so you will help her to anticipate your moves and she will learn to get out of your way.
The main thing is to have fun. It really is like driving a car: the gears are tricky to begin with, but you get it soon enough!
