Hopefully at this point you have been actually capable of getting you
white man to learn some moves. The question that remains then is How
do you get him now to do those moves in public?
It is all about confidence!! You need to build up his confidence one
step at the time and allow him to follow a little ritual every big
night before you hit the dancing floor. Let me explain further.
The one main thing you need to learn is to be patient. Try to motivate
not to force him into dancing!!! If you push too hard he will end up
hating and dreading any form of dance.
The first big tip I can offer you is do NOT plan a big night out if
there is a big sport event like a rugby match that all the boys have
been waiting for……. It will only end up in tears. If you do things
right eventually he will be planning the nights himself even when the
socceroos are playing. Well that may be an exaggeration but I guarantee
you he will at least be happy to go once the match is over.
The second tip is to organize that day’s activities around HIS
favourites activities. I mean if you have been doing ALL day everything
that he likes it is only fair you get to do ONE thing you like.
Nothing works better that the feeling of guilt. Don’t need to feel bad
about it….. you are doing him a favour really. He will appreciate it
once he gets his moves out there.
Third, before you get to the club allow him to build what i call his
own “alcohol confidence” at one of his favourite bars. Initially he
will require 6 to 8 beers and possible some hard core spirits. Trust
me, as he builds up his confidence the number of beers will drop to a
simple jar of sangria per night.
Fourth, choose the right bar! I cannot emphasize how important this
it. Don’t make the huge mistake of taking him to the watershed hotel
for example (the official venue of the international salsa contest).
A place like that will be full of intermediate to professional
dancers. He will never stand up!! Instead, start by taking him to
small cosy and familiar place where nobody will be interested on how
good you move.
And last but not least, have fun with him! It does not matter if you
are not getting that turn at the right time or your feet are taking a
little bit of a hit. Just enjoy going out together and let him know
how much you appreciate that he is trying.
The professional dancing level is not a must, enjoyment is! Just
remember dancing should get you closer to your partner not to divorce!
